It's thanksgiving weekend up here in Canada. I'm looking forward to some family time up at the lake. My brother's wife has decided to take their 2 cats and exchange student up to the lake, so I don't know where we'll sleep, but I'm sure we'll figure it out. I'm the youngest, so I'm used to being shoved in a closet for sleeping at family gigs. I think the closet is big enough to fit J and I in!
Mom has invited (gulp) 35 people for supper. Heh. I'm a bit nervous...I'll help her with everything, and hope we can all squeeze in!
Dad & I are gonna build a bookshelf. Mom and I are gonna build a turkey dinner.
Should be great!
I've been humming the thanksgiving song by Adam Sandler all morning...I'm ready for the holiday. I feel as tho I can control myself around the food, so I think it will be a good time.
Pass the cocoa please. Happy thanksgiving :)
I began this blog while learning to run and training for my very first race! Now I'm just your friendly neighborhood mad scientist still trying to live a healthy life...day by day :)

All that and a piece of pie
Well my pie filled world is slowing down finally. The fruit we brought back from BC was made into pies, which I and my family have been eating for a week or so. I have also gotten the cold J had last week, but it's my own fault - I kept sneaking kisses from a sickly guy...what are ya gonna do? I'm just going to medicate myself up and have a good weekend regardless...
This weekend we are heading up to the lake to visit my parents...I've saved a peach pie to take up for them and I'm looking forward to a weekend of swimming and hiking and BBQs (I have some steaks to take along...yum). I'm bringing up my snorkel and flippers...I can't wait to swim around the lake with J - since he's learned to swim a few years ago it's been great sharing all these things I've enjoyed doing since I was a kid with him...I'm hoping that someday he'll be comfortable enough under water that we can go somewhere and snorkel at coral reefs. We'll see. For now it's snorkel and look at minnows...I'll take it. Even fishing and canoeing are up for grabs now, as he's not spending his entire time freaked out that he might drown (that tended to suck out any enjoyment he's had from those things before). My doc said swimming might help my annoying knee heal up better...I'll see how it handles the swimming there. If it likes it I may do some swimming when we get back home for a while :). Starting September I'm declaring my rest period for my knee over and I want to jump back into things without mucking my knee up again. Hopefully slow and steady (plus starting up my bellydancing again) will do the trick.
My Mum and Dad have friends at the lake right now so it will make the visit a bit less hectic. My Dad is always worried that we aren't enjoying ourselves when we come up and is looking for things for use to do all the time. I'm just glad to see them...and be in one of my most favourite places on earth. We just go up to see them and relax. I love to swim and hike...pick berries with my Mum...watch the stars come out over the lake at night one by one...fiddle out in the shop with Dad and drink hot chocolate and play cards and dominoes until the wee hours.
Can you tell I'm looking forward to the weekend? :)
Hope you all have a good weekend.

My butt and I had a fabulous time

Hello :)
I just got back from a 2 week holiday away...above is my strangest picture from the trip. Yes I took a picture in a subway bathroom...yes I was looked at like a loonie. And this was AFTER I dried my hands cackling in laughter at the bacon gods graffiti...I am the bacon queen after all :)
We were out in Ontario - visiting friends in Toronto for a few days and seeing the sights, then on to the metropolis of Barrie for my nephew's wedding (looked swanky in my strapless cocktail dress if I do say so :) ). Then my hubs had to head home, but I stayed on to visit with my family in Ottawa for the rest of the week...it was fantastic. My family hasn't all been together to visit since MY wedding about 9 years ago. Too long. We had a great visit, did some touristy things like going to the Museum of Man and the National Art Gallery and the Royal Mint. I even got an afternoon of visiting with my sister walking around in the sunshine and poking about in the street markets.
It was over far too soon...
And yes...my pants are tight. At first I thought I could blame my friend Corey who made us the most amazing breakfasts (seriously - there were croissants involved. Waffles too), but on holidays I don't go too apesh*t with food, tho we do tend to eat out a lot. And we did - had some amazing indian and chinese food...one vegetarian thai place even had tofu shrimp :). The wedding was great - went on a brewery tour, and back in Ottawa we ate well, and drank far too much delicious wine. My brother-in-law is a bit of a wine nut...and he'd made a lot of great wine. From crushed grapes...ooh la la! Which we all had to have...because it was delish.
AND...I found a bellydance studio where I could buy a sword....for my head...to learn to dance with. MUAHAHA! And a girl can walk around the subway with a sword and not be bothered...who knew?:)
And so me and my butt are now back home feeling very blessed and looking forward to a long weekend with my man before back to work. I haven't stepped on the scale yet, but I know from my pants being a little bit snug that I'll have to be healthy for a while to get back to my pre tripness form. Back to regular workouts will definitely help, I'm sure. We did a lot of walking on out touristy adventures, but the beer and pub food sort of cancelled them out. On my holidays food is irrelevant - I eat and drink what I like. It does catch up on a trip this long, but hey. I know what I'm doing, and I'm willing to put in the work to fix it.
I'm off for a nice sunny walk. After a silly day yesterday of snow (yeah I know ridiculous - altho I flew home through it which was beautiful-hundreds of atomic bits to catch the light with fluffy cloud mountains...) I am off for a little walk on a cold but sunny day. And I am back to regular workouts and less liquor/snacking/bad foods as of monday.
Cheerio my peps. Have a good day.
Ah...how refreshing
I've been away on a lovely romantic weekend away at West Ed fantasyland hotel...We had a great time staying in polynesia...with their giant rock pool jacuzzi tubs and attached mall where they make the finest avacado bubble tea.
No exercise of the conventional sort while we were away, but we had a great time in our theme room with fruit juice, wine and cheese and grapes...Madagascar green peppercorn cheese and grapes and Gwertzemeiner are wonderful together.
And I tried deep fried pickles in a pub. They are surprisingly good with a pint of bitter.
So altho I confess I've been a slacker this weekend...I don't care :)
I'll be back at it tomorrow, but for today...it's still cream coffee for me.
I've got the day off, so I'm trying to be good and doing a few useful things about the place so as not to feel *too* lazy, as my husband is stuck on nights this week seeing as the soulless corporation he works for doesn't give him today off. While away we picked up a book of short stories by Neil Gaiman (a favourite author of mmine), and once I've made some sort of supper I do believe I'll stick my nose in there for a bit.
Just thought I'd pop in and say hi.
